Oldham Athletic Vs Peterborough United
Preview
This weekend’s
encounter between the two sides, tells the tale of two teams in contrasting
moods. Peterborough come into this game after a patch of recent good form and
despite losing to league leaders Scunthorpe United on Tuesday, they occupy that
last play-off place in League 1.
Oldham on the
other hand, are sitting in the relegation places after a run of five games in
the league where they have failed to pick up a victory, spelling trouble for
The Latics. Oldham Athletic, recently announced that they were under a transfer
embargo as well.
Oldham’s recent
game was an away 2-2 draw at Port Vale in which they managed to get a last
minute equaliser, through a Carl Winchester striker. After the game Oldham
manager Steve Robinson praised the spirit of his players to come back and
salvage a point.
“The lads showed great
character again, though. We had 17 shots on goal, and I thought we totally
dominated for 75/80 minutes of the game and have done in the last four or five
games that we have played.” –Steve Robinson
The Posh suffered a
defeat last time out in a 2-0 losing effort at home to Scunthorpe United and
temporarily halted their form after two wins in two against Bolton Wanderers
and Northampton Town. Manager Grant McCann claimed they got what they deserved
against a good Scunthorpe side.
“I thought we got what we deserved, I
thought Scunthorpe were better than us on the night, I thought we looked lethargic
and we didn’t have much energy about us.” – Grant McCann
Oldham’s main man
this season has been Ryan Flynn who has scored 3 and has 4 assists to his name.
Flynn who was once on Liverpool’s books a youngster, spent the last five
seasons at Sheffield United before joining Oldham in the summer.
For the Posh, their
main man has been Marcus Maddison who has scored 6 and has 9 assists to his
name in total. Maddison, who began his career at Newcastle United, was signed
by the Posh in August 2014 after impressing at Gateshead.
Both teams will be
looking for all 3 points for different reasons, in what promises to be a very
intriguing game.
