The very foundations of Manchester City Football Club were laid out in 1880 when the club was originally founded as St.Marks before eventually in 1894 they became the club we recognise them as today, Manchester City. The Sky Blues claimed their first major honour in 1899 winning the Division Two title and sealing promotion to Division One in the process. They would then go on to win their first major cup competition in 1904 beating Bolton Wanderers to claim the FA Cup.
In the 1930's, City reached two consecutive FA Cup finals, losing in 1933 to Everton but winning against Portsmouth a year later. During the 1934 cup run, Manchester City broke the record for the highest home attendance of any club in English football history, as 84,569 fans packed Maine Road for a sixth round FA Cup tie against Stoke City in 1934 – a record which still stands to this day.
In the 1960's, the club was mainly under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison and in their first season, they won the Division Two title with help from signings such as Mike Summerbee and Colin Bell and two years later they won the First Division title. Towards the turn of the century, City found themselves back in Division Two this time to look to get into Division One. City played Gillingham in the final, where they found themselves 2-0 down coming into the injury time and they managed to score two injury-time goals to salvage the game. They went on to win on penalties after some heroics from Nicky Weaver.
Manchester City is currently owned by the Abu Dhabi United group and four years after their purchase, City secured the Premier League title in the most dramatic of circumstances. On the last day of the 2011/12 season, Manchester City was 2-1 down approaching the end of the game meaning local rivals Manchester United were set to win the title. Goals from Edin Dzeko and then a last-minute Sergio Aguero goal sparked wild celebrations as City pipped their rivals to the title. That title win marked the first title win in 44 years.
Last season, Manchester City broke all sorts of records under Pep Guardiola as they played some of the best football, the Premier League has ever seen. City finished with 100 points as they won the League comfortably and look to this season to create even more history.
