Liverpool Football Club are among one of the famous and well-known clubs not only in England but across the world. Founded in 1892, the club play their home games at Anfield and the club started off in the Lancashire League, winning it in the process before being admitted to the second tier of the Football League. The club won promotion to the First Division and would go on to win the respective title in 1901 and 1906. Liverpool reached their first FA Cup Final in 1914 losing 1-0 to Burnley, the club then went to win another two league titles in 1922 and 1923 but would not win another trophy until 1947 where the club won its fifth English league title.

Liverpool were then under the managerial reign of Bill Shankly, after the club was relegated and his first job was to rebuild the club and get them to the top of English football once again and that he did. Shankly got the club promoted in 1962 and two years following promotion they won the Division One title, 17 years after they had last won it. The Reds picked up their first FA Cup win in 1965 and they went on to win a League and UEFA Cup double in the 1972/73 season, marking their first ever European trophy win.

Shankly retired soon after and he was replaced by Bob Paisley who built on the success Shankly had created. In Paisley's second season, the club won another League and UEFA Cup double and the following season they retained the League and picked up their first European Cup/Champions League title. During Paisley's nine seasons as manager Liverpool won 21 trophies, including three European Cups, a UEFA Cup, six League titles and three consecutive League Cups; the only domestic trophy he did not win was the FA Cup. Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish took over as player/manager and under his tenure Liverpool won another three championships and two FA Cups. Their success was overshadowed by the tragic events which took place at Hillsbrough where 96 football fans lost their lives. These events not only had an effect on Liverpool Football Club but the city of Liverpool and the footballing community across the UK.

Liverpool picked up their historic fifth Champions League win in 2005 where they came back from 3-0 down against an AC Milan side packing international pedigree to draw 3-3, and they went on to beat them 3-2 in a penalty shootout. The most famous night is dubbed "The miracle of Istanbul."
