Huddersfield Town was founded in 1908 and three years later Huddersfield entered the Football League. Their most successful period came in the 1920's when the club won three back to back titles, two of which were under the guidance of Herbert Chapman. The club also won the FA Cup during that decade.

After the Second World War, Huddersfield Town started to go on the decline losing its Division One status in 1952, they were, however, promoted straight away the following season.  The Terriers stayed in the division for three years before being relegated once more. From 1972, Huddersfield spent their time meandering between the three divisions failing to reach the top flight in the process.

In 1998, the club attracted the attention of local businessman Barry Rubery and, after protracted takeover talks, he took over the running of the club, promising significant investment as the club sought Premiership status. However, the club did not make it back to the top flight and fell, two divisions. The club was sold by Rubery to David Taylor and under Taylor's ownership, slipped into administration. In the summer of 2003, the Terriers came out of administration under the new ownership of Ken Davy.

Their rise to the Premier League came through their efforts in the 2016/17 season. The club appointed David Wagner as manager and The Terriers went on to beat Reading 4-3 on penalties in the Playoff final, six years after they lost a League One play-off final to Peterborough United.

Last season they managed to prove pundits and fans wrong, by managing to stay up in the Premier League which included a famous 2-1 victory over Manchester United.
