Leicester City was founded in 1884, originally known as Leicester Fosse the club joined the Football League ten years later. When World War I broke out, which led to the suspension of the Football League, Leicester City faced financial struggles and in 1919 they were taken over by a new company registered as Leicester City. This was rather fitting at the time as the borough of Leicester had recently been given the City status. In the 1920's the club achieved success under manager Peter Hodge, who guided Leicester to the Second Division title in 1925.
Post Second World War, the Foxes reached their first FA Cup final losing 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1949. Leicester once again won the Division Two title in 1954 this time under the guidance of manager Frank Womack. An integral part to their success was the goalscoring efforts of striker Arthur Rowley who scored 36 goals in the title-winning season Leicester City. He then broke the club record for the number of goals scored in a season, netting 44 times in 42 appearances in the 1957/58 season.
Leicester's greatest ever achievement was no doubt winning the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season. The season previous they escaped relegation after completing the greatest of great escape stories and coming into their title-winning season they were favourites to go down, with bookmakers offering them at 5000-1 to win the Premier League. Manager Nigel Pearson was sacked and replaced by Claudio Ranieri who then was placed as the first manager to be sacked by pundits and bookmakers alike. Leicester made an exceptional start to the season, with Jamie Vardy breaking Ruud Van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in consecutive games. Leicester topped the league at Christmas, 12 months after being bottom and facing relegation. The Foxes then achieved the impossible by winning the Premier League title after Chelsea drew with Tottenham Hotspur to give Leicester the fairy-tale ending to the fairy-tale story.
